Our Story

Born from a Passion,
Built from Experience

IceFishUz was founded in the winter of 2018 by Aziz Karimov, a lifelong Tashkent fisherman who noticed that none of Uzbekistan's incredible frozen mountain lakes were accessible to tourists or even most locals.

Armed with two ice augers, a battered 4WD and a passion for sharing what he loved, Aziz led his first three guests onto the ice at Charvak Reservoir in January 2018. All three caught fish. All three came back the following weekend.

Word spread. By 2020, IceFishUz had grown to a team of 8 guides, a fleet of three vehicles, and a reputation across Central Asia as the only serious ice fishing tour operator in the region.

Today, we run 150+ ice fishing day trips each season, welcoming guests from over 30 countries to experience the hidden winter wonder of Uzbekistan's frozen mountain lakes.

Our Values

What We Stand For

Every decision we make at IceFishUz is guided by three core principles that haven't changed since day one.

🛡️

Safety Above All

Ice fishing is an inherently risky activity — cold temperatures, unstable surfaces, remote locations. We take safety seriously to the point of obsession: daily ice checks, certified guides, mandatory safety briefings before every outing and emergency equipment on every trip.

🌿

Sustainable Ice Fishing

We fish responsibly. Strict catch limits, catch-and-release for protected species, no littering on the ice, and active participation in local lake conservation efforts. We want these lakes to remain pristine for the next generation of Uzbek anglers.

🤝

Local Community First

All our guides are local Uzbek residents. We source our food supplies from local farms and markets near the lakes. A portion of every booking fee is donated to the Charvak Reservoir environmental protection fund. Local first, always.

Why Uzbekistan
for Ice Fishing?

Most people don't associate Uzbekistan with ice fishing — and that's exactly the point. While Scandinavian frozen lakes are crowded with experienced anglers, Uzbekistan's winter lakes remain largely unknown to the outside world.

The Tian Shan mountain range creates a belt of high-altitude lakes that freeze reliably each winter to depths of 40–60cm. Charvak Reservoir, just 75km from Tashkent, becomes a dramatic frozen expanse framed by snowy peaks. The fish — carp, catfish, trout, roach — are abundant and largely unpressured.

Add in Uzbekistan's legendary hospitality, the warmth of local culture, and the novelty factor of ice fishing in Central Asia, and you have an adventure that is truly unlike anything else on the planet.

Season: December to early March (varies by elevation)
Ice thickness: 25–60cm depending on location and date
Main species: Carp, Catfish, Roach, Trout, Perch
Access: 1.5–3 hours from Tashkent (all transport included)
Permit: Included in all tour prices
